The i3 is BMW's only production car built around a carbon-fiber passenger cell riding on an aluminum drive module, and it's one of the smallest-volume nameplates in BMW's auction lineup. Front End leads the damage board at 38%. There isn't enough sales volume here to pin down a reliable median the way you can on a mainstream BMW, and it wouldn't mean much anyway – two i3s with identical damage can be worth very different money depending on the battery pack size and whether it carries the range extender. Nearly all of these stay in the US, picked up locally or shipped in-country.
BMW sold the i3 as a pure electric and as a range-extender model that carries a small twin-cylinder gasoline engine borrowed from its motorcycle line, used purely to spin a generator and top up the battery rather than to drive the wheels. Battery capacity grew three times over the car's run, so the pack size, not the model year alone, decides real-world range. Any i3 that's been in a flood or a hard side impact needs the high-voltage battery inspected by a technician certified on the platform before you plan on driving it, since a damaged pack isn't something a general body shop can safely assess. The carbon-fiber tub itself resists denting but cracks rather than crumples, and repairs need a shop set up for carbon-fiber work – not every collision shop will take the job. Parts for the range-extender engine and the unique interior trim are also getting harder to source now that BMW has discontinued the model.
