26 Ford Thunderbird lots for sale across 24+ Copart locations – model years 1956–2005, avg. mileage 77,000 mi. 62% clean title, 31% salvage; Rear End is the top damage (19%). Bids start at $200. The Thunderbird is a collector piece more than a daily driver, so the pool here stays small and swings wildly in value – this is one of the quieter corners of Ford's auction pool. Only a handful changed hands over the last two years, too few to quote a reliable average, and the winning bids ran from a few hundred dollars for a rough project up past ten grand for a clean early car. Front-end and mechanical damage led that small sample. What you're really buying is a specific generation, and the gap between them is enormous.
Sort out which T-Bird you're looking at first, because the checks are different for each. The 1955–57 two-seaters are the blue-chip cars – verify the floors, frame rails and trunk pan for rust, and confirm the hardtop, soft top and trim are all present, since missing pieces cost more than the car sometimes. The 1989–97 Fox/MN12 coupes are the value end; if it's a SuperCoupe, listen to the M90 supercharger for a bad whine and factor a rebuild, and expect head-gasket questions on the 3.8 V6. The 2002–05 retro convertibles look easy but have known cooling and throttle-body gremlins, and a torn or seized power top is a real bill. Every one of these is unibody, so a hard front or side hit that pushes into the cowl is where a cheap car turns into a parts donor.
Buying is quick: register free – no dealer license – set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then arrange pickup, US delivery or export.
Note: ACV and damage data come from the original auction listing. Always check the condition and title yourself before you bid.

FAQ
FAQ What condition are these Thunderbirds in?
A mix: about 62% carry a clean title and the rest are salvage or rebuilt, spread across model years 1956–2005. Front-end and mechanical damage show up most, and the stock stays small because these are collector cars, not volume sellers.
Is a salvage Ford Thunderbird worth buying?
It can be, but the price depends entirely on the generation. A rough 2002–05 convertible or a Fox-body SuperCoupe can pencil out as a driver, while a rust-free 1955–57 two-seater is worth chasing even damaged. There's no single "market price" here – line the car up against a comparable clean-title Thunderbird and subtract your repair estimate.
What should I check before bidding?
Which generation, then the weak points: rust on the floors and frame of the 55–57 cars, the M90 supercharger and 3.8 head gaskets on a SuperCoupe, and the cooling system and power top on the 2002–05 roadster. It's a unibody, so cross-check the damage photos against the title brand – a hit into the cowl is far worse than a bumper scrape.
Can I insure and register a salvage Thunderbird?
Not while it's still salvage. You register and insure it only after it's rebuilt and passes a state inspection; once re-titled rebuilt, most insurers will write it – just not the company that totaled it. Check with your insurer before you bid.
How does the auction work?
Register free, no dealer license. Set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then arrange pickup, US delivery or export.
How do I check a Thunderbird's history before bidding?
Every lot lists the VIN, damage type and title brand. Run the VIN through a vehicle-history report for prior accidents, mileage and title events – especially important on older collector cars where restoration quality and originality drive the value.
What are good alternatives to the Thunderbird?
Cross-shoppers look at the Ford Mustang for a cheaper, better-supported classic, the Chevy Corvette for a two-seat sports car, or the Mercury Cougar, the T-Bird's close personal-luxury cousin.
