The Expedition EL is the long-wheelbase Ford full-size SUV – the stretched body Ford sold from 2007 to 2017, before the same idea got renamed Expedition Max. It's a thin slice of the pool, a handful of lots at most, and barely any have sold here – too few to pin a model price on. Use the make as a yardstick instead: recent Fords sold for a median winning bid around $3,000 before fees, with clean-title, lower-mileage Expedition ELs running higher. Front-end hits and minor dents make up most of the board, entry prices stay low, and nearly all of these stay in the US with rebuilders and big-family flippers – picked up locally or shipped in-country.
Two things really decide whether an EL pencils out. First the engine. Early trucks carry the 5.4 Triton, which has its own reputation – the cam-phaser tick and the spark-plug-ejection trick, where a plug lets go and drags the head threads out with it. The later run went to the 3.5 EcoBoost, and there the money hides in the timing chain and cam phasers, so listen for a rattle on a cold start. Second the frame: this is a body-on-frame truck that shares its running gear with the F-150, which keeps parts cheap and easy to find, but the long body behind the rear axle is the catch. That extra length takes the load in a rear hit, so sight down the frame and the long quarter panels for a bend or a wave before you commit – a stretched body that won't come back straight is a fast way to lose money. These trucks lived hard as family haulers, fleet rigs, and airport-shuttle and livery cars, so expect a high odometer and a worn-through interior. Only after a drivetrain or a parts donor? The "blown motor" and non-repairable Expedition EL lots go cheap for swaps.
