The Taurus X was Ford's three-row crossover for just 2008 and 2009 – really the Freestyle renamed and reworked – so the pool is tiny and every car is old by now, a few dozen lots at most with mileage well up there. Only a single Taurus X sold here in the last two years, nowhere near enough to set a model price, so lean on the roughly $3,000 median across Ford as a whole as a loose marker rather than a Taurus X figure. Front hits are the usual damage, panels and glass are cheap and shared with the Freestyle and Sable, and the buyers chasing these want a cheap, roomy family hauler that still swallows a third row.

The big upgrade over the Freestyle is under the hood and behind it: Ford dropped the troublesome CVT and gave the Taurus X the 3.5 Duratec V6 with a conventional 6-speed automatic, so the drivetrain is far less of a gamble than the earlier CVT car. It's a unibody crossover – no ladder frame – so a hard front hit loads the core support and strut towers, and a folded shell is harder to straighten than a truck. Two known costs sit on the 3.5: the water pump lives inside the engine, driven off the timing chain, so a coolant weep means a timing-cover job, not an afternoon – check for seepage before you bid. And on the AWD cars the power-transfer unit fails when it's been neglected, same as the Explorer, so listen for whine and look for leaks; front-wheel-drive examples skip that worry entirely. When the shell is straight one rebuilds cleanly, and when it isn't it's still a useful parts-only donor since so much carries over to the Freestyle and Flex.

Buying is quick: register free – no dealer license – set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then arrange pickup, US delivery or export.

Note: ACV and damage data come from the original auction listing. Always check the condition and title yourself before you bid.
