The Explorer is one of the most-listed SUVs in Ford's auction lineup – usually around 1,400 lots live at once, mileage averaging near 95,000. Over the last two years 60 salvage and repairable Explorers sold here, most between $1,300 and $4,300 before fees, with clean-title low-mileage examples running higher; front-end damage led at 30%. Most are rebuildable rather than parts-only, which is why they move fast with rebuilders and flippers – nearly all stay in the US, picked up locally or shipped in-country.
One thing to keep front of mind: the Explorer is a unibody, not a body-on-frame truck. A front hit drives straight into the frame rails and strut towers, so damage that looks cosmetic in the thumbnail can reach structure you'll pay dearly to pull. The engine hides its own money – the 3.5 EcoBoost eats timing chains and has a coolant-intrusion habit that cracks cylinders, so listen on a cold start and check the reservoir for a milky film. On AWD cars the power transfer unit (PTU) runs hot and dies when nobody changes its fluid, and it isn't a cheap part. Ford put the 2020-and-newer cars on a rear-drive-based platform, which rewrote the repair playbook, so match parts to the exact year before you buy them. Police Interceptor Utility units flood the listings and go cheap, but they lived hard – long idle hours, drilled holes, spotlight brackets. The ST performance trim turns up wrecked too if you want the twin-turbo. And when the motor's already gone, the non-repairable Explorer lots sell for parts and drivetrain swaps.
Buying is quick: register free – no dealer license – set a maximum bid and the system bids up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then pick up, ship or export.
Note: ACV and damage data come from the original auction listing. Always check the condition and title yourself before you bid.

FAQ
FAQ What condition are these Explorers in?
About 1,592 lots, 73% on a salvage title and the rest clean or rebuilt. Front-end is the usual damage on these mid-size SUVs, and mileage averages near 124,000.
Is a salvage Explorer worth buying?
Often yes, if the unibody is straight and the drivetrain checks out. Recent Explorers sold for a median winning bid around $2,800 before fees, so there's room over a clean-title Explorer. A bent strut tower, a coolant-soaked EcoBoost, or a neglected PTU is where the math turns against you.
What should I check before bidding?
Frame rails and strut towers first, since the unibody carries the hit. Then the engine – timing chain and coolant intrusion on the 3.5 EcoBoost, PTU fluid on AWD cars. Match parts to the model year; 2020-and-newer cars use a different platform. Cross-check the title brand against the damage photos, because they don't always agree.
Can I insure and register a salvage Explorer?
Only after it's rebuilt and passes a state inspection – then most insurers will cover it, just not the company that totaled it. While it's salvage-titled it can't be road-registered. Check with your insurer before you bid.
How does the auction work?
Register free, no dealer license. Set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then pick up, ship or export.
How do I check an Explorer's history before bidding?
Every lot shows the VIN, damage type and title brand. Run the VIN through a vehicle-history report for prior accidents, mileage and title events before you commit.
What are good alternatives to the Explorer?
Buyers cross-shop the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chevy Traverse, or step down to the Ford Edge for a two-row. All three usually have healthy salvage counts.
