The R-Class was always a slow seller — Mercedes built it as a long-wheelbase "sport tourer" between a wagon, a minivan and an SUV, and it shows here too, with too few lots trading in any stretch to build a model-specific price. Across the make, a recent Mercedes-Benz cleared a median winning bid near $4,400 before fees, and a niche, aging SUV like this usually lands under that number rather than over it. What does turn up tends to be roomy and well-equipped, since the R-Class was never sold as a stripped base model. Nearly all of these stay in the US, picked up locally or shipped in-country.
The R-Class rides on the same platform as the M-Class and GL-Class of its generation, which is good news for parts — a lot of the suspension and drivetrain interchanges, and much of the electronics too, even though the R-Class itself never sold in big numbers. AIRMATIC air suspension is standard on most trims, and the struts and compressor wear out the same way they do on its SUV siblings, so check ride height in the listing photos before you bid. V6 and V8 gasoline engines share the era's documented timing-chain-guide wear, while the R320 CDI diesel brings its own turbo and injector costs to price in. Because so few sold new, some interior and trim pieces are genuinely harder to source than on the ML or GL, so a complete cabin is worth a premium. If the structure's too far gone, the non-repairable lots still move for the driveline and glass.
Buying is quick: register free — no dealer license — set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then pick up, ship or export.
Note: ACV and damage data come from the original auction listing. Always check the condition and title yourself before you bid.
