The C7-generation car (2013–2018) runs a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 good for 420 horsepower, paired with quattro and a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox; that supercharged engine shares a documented timing-chain-tensioner weakness with the S4 and A6 from the same era, so service history on that component matters more than mileage alone. The newer C8 S7 (2020 on) switched to a turbocharged version of the same-displacement V6 with mild-hybrid assistance and an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic instead of the dual-clutch – smoother, if less exciting, and without the older car's known chain-tensioner issue. Both generations keep the Sportback's frameless doors and low roofline, so hail and minor dings show up more visibly here than on a sedan with a taller greenhouse. A hard side or rear hit is the one to inspect closely, since the sloped hatch glass and its motors aren't cheap to source used.
