The Prelude ran five generations from 1978 to 2001, and abetter rarely sees more than a handful of lots live at once — too few to support any kind of median, so read this page as a specialty pool rather than a volume model. Value swings on the generation and trim, and on how straight the body is, not a sold-price number; a clean, low-rust Type SH commands real money while a rusted-through early car is mostly a parts source. What you're bidding on depends heavily on the generation. Early cars through the mid-1980s ran a 1.8 or 2.0-liter four with pop-up headlights; third and fourth-gen cars added factory four-wheel steering, worth testing if the lot allows it, since a seized rear rack is a known headache. Collectors chase the H22A DOHC VTEC four that arrived for 1993 and carried through the final Type SH, including its ATTS torque-vectoring system — confirm it's actually present, since it's a common swap target. Rust is the bigger threat to value here than the collision code: check the rear fenders and floor pans first, then look underneath at the subframe mounts. A moderate front hit is manageable on a solid shell; a rusted subframe usually isn't. On the H22, ask about the timing-belt interval, since a snapped belt on this interference engine takes the valves with it. When the body's too far gone, these still pencil out as an engine donor for the VTEC swap crowd. Cross-check any clean-title Prelude against a damaged lot before you commit to a rebuild.
