The Cadillac STS, short for Seville Touring Sedan, came on the market in 2005 and ended its run after eight years in 2012. This midsized luxury four-door sedan came standard with a six-speed automatic transmission that featured driver shift control and performance algorithm shifting. The successor to the Cadillac Seville, the Cadillac STS name originated in 1992, when Cadillac produced both the STS and the Seville Luxury Sedan (SLS). One year later, Cadillac outfitted the STS with the then-new Northstar System. Serving as Cadillac’s flagship model, the Cadillac STS also was the fleet’s most expensive sedan. While the 2005 Cadillac STS and the 2006 Cadillac STS remained consistent, two years later the model received an overhaul. For the 2008 model, the first year in the second generation of the vehicle, Cadillac redid the STS’ exterior, fashioning it after the 2008 CTS. This included a bigger, more assertive grille and chrome fender vents. Additionally, Cadillac updated the interior with improved materials and gave the STS a new steering wheel, but still retained the overall design.
