Two unrelated cars share this number in Mercedes-Benz's catalog. The 230 sedan, part of the W114/W115 "stroke-8" range built from 1968 to 1976, is a solid, honest mid-size classic that rarely draws big money. The 230SL, from the earlier W113 "Pagoda" series of 1963–67, is a different story entirely — it's the first and smallest-engined of the Pagoda roadsters, and clean examples now command serious collector interest. Trading volume here is thin for either one, so read this pool as project and hobbyist stock rather than daily-driver salvage, where the specific car in the photos matters far more than any average. Most stay stateside with restorers, picked up on a trailer or shipped in-country.

On the W114/W115 sedan, rust is the real enemy — check the floor pans, the battery tray and the lower doors before you look at anything mechanical, since a solid unibody underneath uneven paint is worth more than a shiny one hiding rot. These sedans also used a vacuum-operated central locking system that leaks with age, so non-functioning locks are common and not a reason to walk. On the 230SL, originality drives the value: confirm the numbers-matching inline-six and its Bosch mechanical fuel injection haven't been swapped, since a mismatched engine cuts deep into what a Pagoda is worth. The soft-top mechanism and its seals are another common wear point worth cycling if you can. On either car, chrome trim and correct badging are slow and expensive to source, so a complete car is worth chasing over a stripped one. A shell too far gone on the sedan still pencils out as a drivetrain donor.

Buying is quick: register free — no dealer license — set a maximum bid and the system bids for you up to that cap, or take a lot at its Buy Now price. Win it, pay the invoice plus fees, then pick up, ship or export.

Note: ACV and damage data come from the original auction listing. Always check the condition and title yourself before you bid.
