Producing road cars that were based on Formula One technology initially, the company switched gears in 2009. Originally known as McLaren Cars, the company today goes by the moniker McLaren Automotive and is heavily involved with the operations of McLaren Racing. This spinoff company is still actually owned by the original owners. Since first capturing the world’s imagination with the McLaren F1 in 1992, the company has gone on to produce many impressive vehicles, including the SLR that it designed with Mercedes-Benz.
