Chevrolet introduced the Chevy Cobalt in the 2005 model year, marking the beginning of its newest compact car entry. Meant to take the place of the Chevy Cavalier and the Prizm, the Cobalt is a joint venture that saw life north and south of the border. The Cobalt was marketed briefly in Mexico as the Pontiac G4 and in Canada as the Pontiac G5 Pursuit, Pontiac Pursuit and the Pontiac G5. The Chevy Cobalt’s production run lasted from 2004 to 2010. Chevrolet also introduced a line that included three sport compact versions known as the Chevrolet Cobalt SS. Though its production run ended in 2010, the Chevrolet Cobalt received attention in 2014, when more than 700,000 models were recalled. Faulty ignition switches were found to have been the cause of numerous crashes. Cobalt salvage cars for sale in car auctions can be found that have parts needed to replace worn parts or damaged parts as the result of an accident. Ignition switch issues aside, the Cobalt is recognized for withstanding front collisions well. Models prior to 2008 do not have side curtain airbags standard. Chevrolet ultimately phased out the Cobalt with the Chevrolet Cruze serving as its replacement.
